To top it all off, VLC rolls a dice and crashes every time an MKV file is opened. Yes, even if you were working on a text document while playing a show in the background. I had to use a library for global keyboard presses, which literally meant any time "P" was pressed, the video would pause. As if not having a GUI wasn't bad enough, my Pygame window lost focus when the VLC window was created. I decided to bind pausing and seeking to key presses.
Besides it being really weird having 2 windows, now all my buttons were blocked. VLC made it's own window when playing, which means it covered my Pygame UI. After many days of head banging, I finally settled on VLC. Pygame's movie module was discontinued, CV2 had no clock to control playback speed, Moviepy used an absurd amount of cpu, Pyglet's video seeking was completely busted, and I didn't like having to create extracted files with FFMPEG. I tried a ton of libraries, but each one had their own issues.
